Welcome to my blog!!!

I have collected baseball cards and autographs over the years. I still have boxes full of cards (as well as newer cards) that are just sitting there. So, I have decided to see how many of them I can get autographed. I use through the mail as my preferred route for this adventure. I also have an account on Zistle and The Trading Card Database for trading purposes (stevienicks77).

Observations:
  • Early on, there will be a lot of Rated Rookies and Superstar cards because that's how Upper Deck and Donruss started their sets off back in the day
  • It probably seems like I'm hating on current cards because, so far, they are pretty much the first to get bumped, but I'm not
  • Favorite player on the page:  Gregg Olson
  • Favorite card on the page:  1987 O-Pee-Chee Wally Backman
  • Card most likely to get bumped:  2018 Heritage Steven Vogt

My mega collection project

I have a lot of common cards and a lot of cards from collecting when I was a kid.  There are still cards when I find them remind me collecting as a kid; the "gotta have" rookies, the stars, the future Hall of Famers.  I have long admired fellow bloggers who have put "mega collections" together and have shared them.  I had put a poll out about how to approach this project; do I only use cards from my childhood days of collecting or do I use all my cards?  It was decided with the help of the voters that I would use all of my cards to put together a mega collection.

I decided to keep it "old school" and do a mega collection of 792 cards and a traded mega collection of 132 cards.  I tried to keep it so I wasn't favoriting my favorite players, teams, or specific set (although Topps is the brand I have the most of).  I wanted to highlight the specifics of the Donruss, Fleer, Score, Topps, and Upper Deck sets; Record Breakers, Turn Back the Clock, All Stars, Star Rookies, Diamond Kings, Rated Rookies, First Round Draft Picks, etc.  I plan on evaluating future cards I buy and add if they meet the standards for being in the mega collection.

My goal is to share 2 pages a week.  I obviously have gotten a late start this months I will do one every day to catch up.  So here we go!

A Sportslot bundle!

I've said for the past couple of years that I really want to concentrate on finished my current set collections, and obtaining cards for my mega collections.  I have spent some much needed "wellness" time doing something I love, which is organizing and finishing my collections.  Just a couple of days ago, I dived in and really determined what I'm missing from all my mega collections and updated my blog lists and TCDB.  Then, I have determined what I can and can't trade for on TCDB.  If I can't make a TCDB trade because it's not available, I'm buying it at the best price possible via Sportslots or COMC.  In other words for anyone that reads this blog, you'll be seeing a lot of Sportslots posts, and I also want to take the time to share good sellers.

Sportslots #1 - 1972hank

Sportslots #2 - jjcard1

The card I added to maximize my shipping costs!

I only need 2 more 5 Tool cards and 1 more Golden Glove award card.

Sportslots #3 - scoagh44.  I got a lot of 2017 Topps inserts for my sets.  This is only a sampling!

I chose this card to round out my purchase to maximize shipping.  I typically don't like cards without logos, etc. but one this particular card, you can't tell.

When Panini gives you a lemon, they also make you some lemonade!

I follow quite a few fellow Bloggers and sports card people on Twitter, and I had read some poor reviews regarding 2019 Panini Elite Extra Edition Baseball.  For $20, you get 5 cards, and most were unhappy with that, which I agree.  But, low and behold, I was at Target and couldn't resist new product.  Out of the 5 cards, one was a relic, but this is what it looked like:

There was no relic in there!  I filed a QA ticket with Panini.  I didn't have much hope for this to be fruitful because I had not read any good reviews on dealing with Panini.  However, after filing on January 2, this week, I received a package from Panini that included this:

I couldn't believe it!  I got two cards, and one is a Royal!  I had to do some reading on Miguel Hiraldo, but it looks like he's doing well in the Blue Jays system.  Thank you Panini!
